Multidisciplinary artist, musician, and performer Kenny Zhao will live-score some tunes, beats and vibes alongside an edited montage of some of the most memorable Los Angeles car chases and pursuits.
From stealing a bread truck on Thanksgiving to the infamous OJ chase, LA police pursuits are iconic enough to be their own category of art. When the speedometer reads more than 90 mph, the sirens begin and streaming video goes live, thousands may tune in.
Why are we so fascinated by LA car chases? Do we root for the potential escapee or the chasers? Do we as the viewer care about the crime prior to the chase? What does it mean to create and find entertainment from real-life dangerous situations where people’s lives are genuinely at stake? Perhaps you have these questions in mind… or perhaps you just want to have a chill time observing suspects flee the not-so-chill police.

Kenny Zhao
Kenny Zhao is a multidisciplinary artist, musician, and performer whose work explores performance as a space for attention, imagination, and personal meaning. He is the founder of the I Ching Ensemble, a group that brings together improvised artmaking and live divination to create participatory encounters with the I Ching. Earlier this year, the I Ching Ensemble held a month-long residency at Water & Power (https://waterandpower.life/), inviting visitors to encounter the I Ching through workshops, performance, and open discussion.
