100th Year Anniversary With Live Score!
October 19th, 2022
October at Shadow Kitchen gets into the Halloween spirit with a screening of HÄXAN, Benjamin Christensen’s 1922 Swedish doc-fiction feature exploring the history of witchcraft spanning from the Middle Ages until the 20th Century. Told in seven parts, varying from the essayistic to dramatized narratives, Christensen loosely based the film on MALLEUS MALEFICARUM, a German witch-hunters’ guide from the 1400s.
A hundred years after its release, HÄXAN makes its way into cinematic folklore with some of the most fantastic and unnerving images of the silent era, featuring terrifying stop-motion animation and puppetry of occult practices, with the salacious role of the devil played by the director himself.
This screening will be accompanied with a live score from musicians:
Nephila
Shrine Maiden
Verge Bliss
King Magnolia (Chloe Scallion + KA)
Join us next Wednesday 7:00 PM (10/19/22) at Coaxial for an exciting night and a look back at one of the first hybrid films!
