
We hope you and yours are taking care of yourselves and each other. All the recent and ongoing fires (literal and otherwise) underscore the vital necessity of cooperative practices. With that in mind, this month Shadow Kitchen presents a screening of work by creative collective The American Standard Film Co.
Constituent members Gregory Barnes, Jordan Michael Blake, Benjamin Buxton, Fidel Ruiz-Healy, and Tyler Walker will provide a window into their collaborative process, presenting rejected concepts, early drafts, and completed short films which have exhibited and won awards at Sundance, Slamdance, and SXSW.


FILMMAKERS Gregory Barnes is a writer and director. Raised a faithful Mormon in Oak Park, IL, his films are influenced by the comedic absurdity of leaving the Jell-O-obsessed desert religion. His short, The Touch of the Master’s Hand, won the Jury Prize for best U.S. fiction short at the Sundance Film Festival. + He’s an Eagle Scout Jordan Michael Blake left Mormonism to make movies at NYU. His award-winning shorts include The Touch of the Master’s Hand (2021 Sundance) and Dead Enders (2023 SXSW). He co-wrote & co- directed a segment for Adult Swim’s OFF THE AIR and co-founded The American Standard Film Co. He’s also a founding member of R A C E R T R A S H and The Taco Bell Film Festival®. His newest film – Paradise Man (ii) – premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Benjamin Buxton is a documentary filmmaker and photographer based in Los Angeles and Marfa Texas. He is a recipient of the Kodak and UFVF scholarship under which he made my most recent documentary about folklore musicians in Cuba. Graduate from Northwestern University’s MFA in Documentary Film. Fidel Ruiz-Healy is an award-winning Mexican-American director and cinematographer. His work has screened at Sundance, SXSW, Slamdance, Fantasia, Palm Springs, along with being featured on Adult Swim’s “Off The Air.” He currently resides in Los Angeles, CA where he writes bios in the third person such as this one. Tyler Walker is an award-winning filmmaker from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. A graduate from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, he currently lives in Los Angeles, CA where he’s just trying to find a good hoagie and a decent dive bar. |
